Before Manchester City completed the signing of Gabriel Jesus for a £27m fee with add ons, there was plenty of interest from other clubs in acquiring his services, most of it from Italy.

When asked about a potential move to Inter or Juventus, the Brazilian striker revealed that he turned down both clubs due to the fact he’s a fan of Serie A rivals AC Milan – he told Gazzetta dello Sport’s Extra Time magazine: “I said no to Inter and Juve, that’s true. I’m a Milan fan!”?

Although when he went on to reveal his two role models, neither player has spent time playing for the Rossoneri: “[Gigi] Buffon and [Francesco] Totti are my role models. I watched them on TV and picked them on video games.”

However there was also a special mention for former Milan and Inter player Ronaldo.

“My reference point is Ronaldo. I like watching his videos, he won everything thanks to his extraordinary talent.”?

If he can go on to emulate half the success of the legendary Brazilian forward, City fans will have something truly incredible on their hands. An extra benefit of signing the player is that he counteracts the worries inherent within an ageing squad, and City will benefit from his injection of youth, alonhside the capture of 22-year-old John Stones.

Although it will be January 2017 until he officially links up with his new teammates, he went on to reveal that Pep Guardiola was the main reason behind his decision, adding: “Working with a great manager like Guardiola is one more reason that I was convinced to join Manchester City. Guardiola’s role was decisive. He gave me a call this summer and that was decisive. I’m delighted I’ll be working with him.”
