Friendly with Portugal leaves Peseiro wishing Eagles qualified for world cup

Super Eagles Coach, Jose Peseiro has relished the prospect of his side playing European giants, Portugal in an international friendly.

The Nigeria senior male team will play against world cup bound Portugal on Thursday.

And in view of the of playing the former European champions, Peseiro said he wishes the match was a World Cup match as he feels that is what the match should be.

“Sincerely, I am wishing that this is a FIFA World Cup group stage match, because I tell you, that is the level at which Nigeria should be playing. Even though that is not the case, our objective is to go out there and win.

The Eagles handler further enthused that the friendly will propel the team’s aspirations of winning the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire.

“It is good that we are playing big teams. I am enamoured by that, because this is good for the team and it will sharpen the team to achieve our goal of winning the next Africa Cup of Nations. We also have the opportunity to test a number of players.”

The encounter between Portugal and Nigeria is scheduled to take place in Lisbon, Portugal at 7:45pm Nigeria time.
