Former Super Eagles and Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu on Thursday paid tribute to his former coach at the London side, Arsene Wenger, as the Frenchman turns 66 years old.
Born on October 22, 1949, the Frenchman who had previously managed AS Monaco in his home country and also had a stint in Japan with Nagoya Grampus Eight, Wenger bought Kanu from Serie A side Inter Milan in 1999 despite health concerns after the Nigerian’s heart operation.
Kanu wrote on his Twitter handle how happy he is for his former manager on his birthday.
“Happy birthday Arsene Wenger. Big boss. I wish you many more years. #Arsenal,” Kanu wrote on Thursday.
Two-time African Footballer of the Year winner Kanu is still seen as a cult hero by older Arsenal fans.
