Nigeria’s Super Sand Eagles claimed victory on CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations opening day after defeating Egypt 3-2 at the Eko Atlantic Beach in Lagos.
Captain Isiaka Olawale’s early strike and Emeka Ogbonna’s brace secured victory for the two time African Champions.
The win helped the Sand Eagles to second spot in Group A standings after match day 1 at the CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations.
With places at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup next year at stake, the home side spurned a two-goal lead as Egypt battled back through Mohamed and Abo.
However, Ogbonna’s second strike of the match – a wonderful curled effort – proved the difference as Nigeria kicked off with a win.
Ivory Coast are top on the log in Group A after a 5-0 win over Ghana earlier on.
