Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, has admitted that his team’s clash against Bayelsa United became more difficult after conceding an early goal, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.
The Pride of Rivers fell to a 1-0 defeat at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Wednesday, denting their push for a stronger finish in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Speaking after the match, Finidi acknowledged the challenge his team faced after falling behind:
“We came here with a different objective, but after conceding, the game became difficult.”
He highlighted his team’s second-half efforts but credited Bayelsa United for their defensive resilience.
“We pushed hard in the second half for an equalizer, but credit to Bayelsa United for staying solid at the back.”
Despite the setback, the former Super Eagles coach expressed satisfaction with his players’ commitment.
“Football is about moments—they had theirs and took it well. Still, I must commend my players for their effort despite the result.”
With this loss, Rivers United will now look to bounce back in their next NPFL fixture as they aim to strengthen their position in the league standings.
