A dream start it was for Nigeria’s Falconets as they beat France in their opening group D gane at the ongoing FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Falconets held their ground against the Europeans who on several occasions were close to taking the lead.
In the 20th minute, Mexican referee Francia González suspended the game due to heavy downpour and the resumption, the story remained the same with neither of the sides able to break the deadlock going into the first half break.
At the resumption of hostilities, both team came close to grabbing the opener with the French dominating and the Nigerians playing more on the counter.
In one of those counter attacks in the 85th minutes, Flourish Sabastine gave the Falconets the lead after being through on goal by Idoko, leaving her with only the goalkeeper to beat and that she did perfectly.
The victory was a deserved one by the Falconets who will square up with South Korea on Sunday.
