“?FA chairman Greg Dyke has revealed that England manager Roy Hodgson could have his contract renewed even if the Three Lions exit the Euros at the quarter-final stage.
Hodgson’s contract is due to expire at the end of the summer, but he has hopes to lead the nation to the 2018 World Cup.
Dyke, who will relinquish his position in the coming weeks as well, has indicated that progression to the latter stages of the competition would not determine whether or not the squad had a successful Euro 16 campaign.
“I think we have been pretty clear with Roy and ourselves, no decision will be taken until this tournament is over,” he told Radio 5 Live’s Sportsweek programme (via the “?Mirror).
“What we have said if we have done well and we played well then I think he will be renewed.”
The chairman added that getting knocked out of the group stage would represent a disaster, but an exit in the quarter-final – if England play well against one of the best sides and suffered an unfortunate defeat, or went out on penalties – would be considered having done well enough.
“Doing well? Semi-finals would be great; quarter-finals if we play well and meet one of the best sides and unfortunately lost or went out on penalties, something like that,” he added.
“If you can win it that is great success. If you get knocked out in the group stage that is disaster.
“That is the sort of discussion that will go on.”
