Former Nigeria U17 star Aliyu Abubakar has explained the manner which he departed Finnish side PS Kemi for Belarus outfit FK Slutsk few months after his move from FC Dila of Georgia.
In an exclusive chat with Owngoalnigeria.com, the midfielder who was a part of the Nigerian team that won the U17 World Youth Championship in 2013 said his loan deal to the PS Kemi had a break clause which he exercised to move to Belarus.
” I was on loan to PS Kemi from FC Dila. So when Slutsk came calling I had to use the option of termination in my loan deal in order to join Slutsk. That was what happened “, he told Owngoalnigeria.com in an exclusive chat.
Speaking on his favourite position on the pitch, the 23 year old said he is way more comfortable playing as a defensive midfielder but he is also at home as a central defender if it’s for the good of his team.
” I have played several roles in my short career but my favourite still remains as a defensive midfielder but I am also comfortable as a central defender if my team need me to help out”, he said.
Nine players led by the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, Francis Uzoho who played in same team like Aliyu at the U17 World Youth Championship but he is yet to get a call up. A situation which he says doesn’t bother him.
” My time will come. I have no doubt about it. It’s an honour to represent my country and just like my ex teammates at U17 level, I will give my best when I eventually get the chance to play for Nigeria at senior level “.
