Error Prone Ekong needs some time on the Bench

William Troost Ekong had a poor 21/22 season as his club Watford went down to the second tier of English football, the Championship. This means that the Nigerian will be playing the 22/23 season for Watford in the championship where the hornets will be looking to get back to the Premier League and stay up for good.

William Troost Ekong has been prone to error recently both in the Premier League and for the national side.

The mistakes are coming in thick and fast for the Nigerian.

The former Udinese defender scored an own goal that led to Nigeria’s loss against Mexico only last month. And he was not up to the required level against Sierra Leone.

Slow and often caught out of position, Troost-Ekong suffered at the hands of the quick Leone Stars attackers. And he was the one beaten by Noah Musa Kamara, who then sent in the cross that Jonathan Morsay gratefully headed in for the opening goal.

Peseiro may need to keep Troost-Ekong on the bench until he regains his mojo, with Leon Balogun and Kenneth Omeruo viable options.
