Players of El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri made good their threat to boycott the week 33 Glo Premier League match with FC IfeanyiUbah as they failed to travel yesterday to Nnewi for the match, as at press time.

The players have refused to train since Monday over enhanced salary crisis while a meeting scheduled between them and the management by the technical adviser, Kelechi Emeteole failed to persuade the players from carrying out their threat.

On Friday, the players as part of protest, deflated the team’s bus tyres to further underline their resolve not to honour the match but club secretary, Tahir Bala pleaded for understanding, telling the players to forget their threat as the Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima was studying their demands.

In the face of the threat by the players, the League Management Company (LMC) on Thursday said it would deduct six points from the team if by October 27, the management of the team fail to pay all outstanding financial entitlement of the players and officials to further compound the problem of El-Kanemi.

One of the players confirmed yesterday that they refused to travel to Nnewi as the management showed insensitiveness to their plight. “Since Tuesday when the coach held meeting with us, the management has refused to meet with us, hence we decided to boycott the match in Nnewi,” he said.

Meanwhile, other matches slated for today will go ahead as planned with Dolphins traveling to Jos to face Giwa FC while Sharks are at home against Wikki Tourists.

Other matches will see FC Taraba slugging it out with Heartland in Jalingo, leaders, Enyimba welcome Shooting Stars in Aba, basement team, Bayelsa United at home against Nasarawa United while Lobi Stars host Kwara United and Akwa United hosting Abia Warriors.

Two centres host tough of the bill encounters as Sunshine Stars travel up north for a date with Kano Pillars while Rangers face an uphill task against second place Warri Wolves at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
