RANGERS handler, Imama Amakapabo, is to remain in Rangers despite landing the job of Super Eagles assistant coach.
A member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee, Paul Bassey told Sunday Sunsports yesterday that with the new contract terms to be reached between the NFF and assistant coaches of all the national teams, the coaches are to remain in their respective clubs while serving the nation.
“Imama wont be quitting Rangers as things stand now. He will only be with the Super Eagles when the Eagles are to play a match. He will return to Enugu immediately after such games. This informs why the assistant coaches wont be getting salaries. They are only to get allowances and bonuses,” Bassey said.
He pointed out that the technical committee came up with the recommendation of hiring assistant coaches on part time as a way of saving cost and stop the present trend in which the NFF owe coaches.
“The number of coaches on the NFF pay roll will reduce with this new arrangement,” Bassey pointed out.
The NFF had a fortnight ago named Imama as Super Eagles assistant coach, with Salisu Yusuf getting the job of chief coach, while the search for a foreign technical adviser continues. The soccer federation has also told the assistant coaches for the U20 and U17 teams to go job hunting as they would henceforth get only allowances from the Glass House.
