Former coach of the Nigeria Super Eagles Austin Eguavoen has weighed in on recent matter of comparison between AS Roma coach José Mourinho and current PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino, Nigeria Soccernet can report.
Eguavoen who failed to qualify Nigeria for the world cup was in defence of the Portuguese tactician whom Alex Crook, a pundit on Talksport in the United Kingdom named outdated.
In his comment on live football programme on social media platform Twitter, Alex Crook said Pochettino is a better modern-day manager than Mourinho.
“If you’re asking me who’s the better manager in 2022, I’d say Pochettino,” Crook said.
“Poch is a modern manager, Jose’s methods are outdated and he proved that at Manchester United and at Tottenham.”
In Mourinho’s defence, Eguavoen lashed out at Crook saying: “Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino are both top managers. But there are only very few managers you can compare to Jose, & the PSG manager isn’t in that bracket. Five European Trophies for Jose against None. League Titles in the major European footballing countries. Come on!”
Eguavoen who stepped down from his role as the head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria after they failed to secure a ticket to Qatar World Cup maintained his previous position as the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)
