Argentina and Napoli legend Diego Maradona has launched a scathing attack on Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, claiming that the 23-year-old should be his country’s seventh-choice striker.
The Inter club captain has endured a turbulent year in Milan, publicly falling out with the Inter ultras, as well as marrying his former teammate Maxi Lopez’s wife.
But for all of his escapades off the pitch, he has continued to perform well on it, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists is 19 Serie A games for Stefano Pioli’s side.
But that isn’t good enough for footballing legend Diego Maradona, who claims he would rather select a 44-year-old that pick Icardi for Argentina.
“?”Icardi should be left well away from the national team.” “?Football Italia quote Maradona as saying.

“Rather than bring in Icardi, I’d call up [44-year-old] Bazan Vera.
“Icardi should not be the fourth choice for Argentina, but the seventh choice.”?
Despite performing well at club-level, Icardi has earned just one cap for Argentina’s senior team, which may be due to his attitude off the pitch rather than on it.
Inter have struggled this season after the early dismissal of Frank De Boer, sitting in seventh in Serie A on 33 points after 19 games, already 12 points behind league-leaders and current-champions Juventus.
