“?Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has likened the atmosphere and spirit in the England squad for Euro 2016 to what he’s experienced at White Hart Lane over the last 10 months, speaking of a real comradery that can only bode well ahead of the tournament.
“It’s the same sort of atmosphere at Spurs – there are a lot of youngsters and everyone gets on well,” Alli told Match of the Day magazine.
“We’ve got the same sort of philosophy and we’re looking to do the right things, which is important for the team,” he added.
That obviously carried Spurs a long way under the management of Mauricio Pochettino in 2015/16, with the club firmly in the title race until the last month of the season and qualifying automatically for the Champions League for the first time in the current era.
In Harry Kane, Eric Dier, John Stones, Raheem Sterling, Ross Barkley, Marcus Rashford and Alli himself, England have a tremendous amount of exciting, young talent. It’s also a first major international tournament for older pair Danny Rose and Jamie Vardy.
If the Three Lions can harness the freshness and the exuberance, Alli has every faith the team can go a long way in France.
“We’ve got to be right mentally – to stay focused and not get carried away if results go our way. We’ve got to be focused and, like this season at Spurs, take each game as it comes and not look too far ahead,” he explained.
“We’ve got a lot of new players that have only just broken in recently, but there’s definitely a lot to be excited about. Whatever happens, it’s certainly a team that can be worked on for the future.”
