Heartland Queens FC suffered their first defeat in the ongoing 2024 NWFL Super Six playoffs against Confluence Queens on Monday at the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The first half ended in a stalemate while the second half witnessed a total collapse of the Owerri side to their counterparts from the Confluence City side.
The referee awarded a penalty against Heartland Queens after an infringement in the box and it was Merit Offor who stepped up and smartly sent matchday 1 hero, Uchenna Chukwu the wrong way to break the deadlock with the match opener in the 74th minute.
The Owerri landladies fought hard to get back into the game but could not find an immediate equaliser. A set piece from Confluence Queens saw another goal as the Watersmeet side increased the tally when substitute Feranmi Odutade in the 86th minute headed home the second goal.
All efforts by Heartland Queens to come back into the game proved abortive as the game ended 0-2 in favour of the Lokoja-based side.
Heartland Queens now sit at the bottom of the six-team table on paltry one point three behind leaders, Rivers Angels with three matches to spare. Up next for the Owerri mainstreams is a potential explosive clash against Edo Queens on Wednesday at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
