Promising Nigerian defensive midfielder David Ozoh received his first call up to the Crystal Palace senior team in their Carabao Cup third round clash against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Wednesday night.
The Valencia-born Ozoh is among a wave of young players who have flourished for Crystal Palace development squad this season under the tutelage of manager Patrick McCarthy.
Ozoh has been identified as a potential first team player, with first team boss Patrick Vieira naming him on the roster for the club’s pre-season tour to Australia and Singapore.
The talented teenager featured off the bench in pre-season games against Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool, and started against Leeds United at the Optus Stadium.
Blessed with technical ability and physicality, Ozoh has started the last ten matches played by the Eagles in the Premier League 2.
In a very cagey game, it was too much of a risk to introduce him off the bench in the all Premier League affair with both teams searching for a winning goal.
The game was decided on penalties after ninety minutes of football ended goalless. Newcastle progressed to the fourth round after winning 3-2.
