CAFCL: Plateau United land in Tunisia for second leg group stage match

Plateau United Football Club of Jos has reached Tunisia safely ahead of the return leg, second round preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League against four-time winners Esperance of Tunisia on Saturday.

The thirty-seven-man contingent, which touched down after four Tunisian times at the Carthage International Airport, Tunis, aboard a Turkish Airline, was led by the Plateau State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Daniel Dung Dalyop, in the company of his predecessor, Victor Lapang and the club’s General Manager, Pius Henan.

Nearly all the players that took part in the first leg in Abuja made the trip except for Douglas Eru, who was dropped for Mustapha Abdullahi due to the coach’s decision.

After assuring fans that he will present an attacking formation against the Tunisian powerhouse, Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu may change the team to realise that objective.

Plateau United have not gone beyond the second round of the African flagship club competition after two previous attempts and has set a target of qualifying for the group stage of the competition this season.

Plateau United need to avoid defeat to scale through to the lucrative group stage of the competition, a task that looks mountainous for the Nigerian side to achieve due to the pedigree of the home side.

The match comes up on Saturday at the famous Rades Stadium in Tunis.
