Nigeria league champions Rivers United on Wednesday afternoon made a bold statement towards qualifying for the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup group stages after hammering their Libyan opponent Al Nasr 4-0 in Port Harcourt, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.
Super Eagles defender Ebube Duru was the hero on the afternoon as his two goals propelled Rivers United to a 5-0 win.
Ebube Duru opened the scoring for Rivers from the penalty spot in the 12th minutes after Paul Acquah was hacked down in the box by Al Nasr’s goalkeeper who gets booked for the challenge.
Kazie Enyinnaya doubles the lead for River United in the 15th minute.
The Nigerian side missed a couple of scoring chances afterwards but got their 3rd a minute before the break through Paul Acquah.
Rivers United went into the break with a conformable 3-0 lead but the Nigerians didn’t relax as they got their 4th in the 64th minutes off the boots of Super Eagles defender, Ebube Duru (penalty kick).
It was his second of the afternoon.
It became a messy afternoon for the visitors when Malachi Ohawume thunderbolt in the 72nd minute made it 5-0 for the host.
A couple of other chances fell to the host which they missed.
The Nigerians were at their best in the defense not letting a goal slip into their net as the game finished Rivers United 5-0 Al Nasr.
A huge advantage for the league champions who now 90 minutes between them and the group stages.
