South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has praised his players for their resilient performance in the 1-1 draw against Nigeria on Friday night at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Despite a grueling travel schedule, which saw the team arrive in Uyo just hours before the match, Bafana Bafana put in an impressive shift to earn a hard-fought point.
Thembo Zwane’s first-half strike was cancelled out by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s equalizer, ensuring the Super Eagles shared the spoils.
Broos was full of admiration for his players’ mental toughness pointing at their challenges before arriving at the host city.
”I have to congratulate my players. We had a terrible travel to Nigeria on Wednesday, arriving only at 2 am on Thursday morning after 20 hours on the way. But you saw the mentality in the team today, and I can only be proud of my players.”
The draw leaves South Africa with four points from three games, keeping them in contention for a 2026 FIFA World Cup spot.
Next up, they face Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.
