French Ligue 1 side Lorient have a secured major transfer coup after beating their Brittany rivals Rennes to the services of Ghana striker Majeed Waris.
The 23-year-old landed at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport on Wednesday morning and was whisked into the car by Lorient officials while their counterparts from Rennes were waiting, l’Equipe revealed.
The French outlet understood that Les Merlus made an improved offer at the last minute to Turkish side Trabzonspor, who own his economic and registration rights.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Waris rejected the move to Lorient because of the clubs’ synthetic pitch.
Waris is expected to complete a medical on Wednesday and sign for Sylvain Ripoll’s side the next day.
He will replace compatriot Jordan Ayew who was sold to English Premier League club Aston Villa.
