“?German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach are ready to break the bank to land Chelsea youngster Andreas Christensen on a permanent deal, according to the “?Mirror.
The 20-year-old defender is midway through a two-year loan deal at the club, and was in fine fettle at the back for the Bundesliga side.
So impressive he has been, the Blues have considered recalling him for the upcoming campaign and have high hopes for the player, whose deal doesn’t expire until 2020.
The Germans, however, want to keep him at the club beyond another season, and are ready to break their transfer record, which currently stands at £11.5m, to keep Christensen at the club.
Director of football at Gladbach Max Eberl said to Sports Bild: “We only spend the money we have. But in the case of Christensen we are ready to make a record transfer. We know that a player with his quality does not come cheap.
“Our intention is to try and get into talks with Chelsea in the summer,” Eberl told kicker back in February.
“Andreas fulfils everything we’ve seen in him. And we are delighted that we were able to take him on loan without any ifs and buts.”
The Danish youngster has proved a real hit in Germany, and could go on to have a great Chelsea career if he keeps on playing in such manner. Incoming boss Antonio Conte may just decide to take him back sooner rather than later.
The player has remained professional amid the talks, telling Sports Bild that he’s happy to play at either club.
He said: “I feel really well at Gladbach, but the same applies to Chelsea.”
