It was a quiet day for Nigeria duo, Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis as Aston Villa’s drive for the European places continued with a 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
After goalless first half at the Villa Park, Bertrand Traore gave the host the three minutes into the second half.
Coach Steve Cooper in the 65th minute introduced Awoniyi for Jonjo Shelvey whose poor pass led to the goal of Traore.
Awoniyi’s introduction could only get him nothing but a yellow card and two minutes into added time, Ollie Watkins contined his red-hot streak in front of goal, grabbing his ninth goal in 11 matches to seal all three points.
While Awoniyi got only 25 minutes to turn around the fortunes of the Red Trees, Dennis was an under substitute all through.
Defeat leaves Forest facing Liverpool and Manchester United in their next league matches, in the relegation zone on goal difference with eight games left to play.
