Arsene Wenger Claims Gunners Midfielder Can Be Their Version of Frank Lampard

“?Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey, insisting the 25-year-old can be the Gunners’ Frank Lampard.

Ramsey came on 77 minutes into Arsenal’s match against Sunderland on Saturday, having been out injured since the opening day loss to Liverpool. Two minutes after coming on, he set up Alexis Sanchez for a goal, therefore nabbing an assist in no time.

Despite playing just 74 minutes this season, the Wales international has already assisted more goals than Manchester United’s £89m signing Paul Pogba, who has registered 810 minutes of Premier League football this campaign.

And according to Wenger, Ramsey can be Arsenal’s answer to Chelsea legend – and their highest-ever scorer – Frank Lampard.

“He drives and pushes the team forward and that is exactly what we want in our side,”? the French coach said, via the “?Daily Star.

“He is Lampard-ish you know. He likes to get in the box and shoot from distance. They have similar qualities.”?

The Gunners have gone 14 matches unbeaten, and Wenger is considering thrusting Ramsey into his starting line-up for the Champions League group-stage match against Ludogorets on Tuesday night.

“I’ll have to analyse all that now,” he replied when asked if the Welshman would start on Tuesday.

“We have Granit Xhaka back who can now play in the Champions League and then we play Tottenham.

“So I’ll have to see who I rest and who I play without diminishing our chances of winning.”?

Lampard, meanwhile, is still going strong and plies his trade in the MLS with New York City FC.

He won four Premier League titles and the Champions League with the Blues, scoring 211 goals in the process.
