Arsenal Set to Take Advantage of Newcastle Relegation With Move for Moussa Sissoko

Arsenal are reportedly in the process of preparing a bid for Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko, according to the Daily Star.

The France international has been linked heavily with a move to the Emirates in the past but in light of Newcastle’s recent relegation, the Gunners are reportedly looking to capitalise on the situation and bring the midfielder in.

And as a result of their relegation, the report claims that the Magpies may be prepared to offload Sissoko for less than £10m, three years after he joined them for a reported £1.5m fee.

The potential signing of Sissoko would be a clear indication of Arsene Wenger’s desire to bolster his midfield ranks after the departure of Tomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta, and Mathieu Flamini at the end of this season.

It has been reported Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka is close to completing a deal with the Gunners, which could be possibly finalised before the start of the Euros this summer.

Sissoko’s comments following Newcastle’s relegation have done nothing to reassure fans in the North East that he will remain with the club in the Championship.

The 26-year-old said: “It’s difficult to answer [whether I will stay] but I know this team and this club deserves to stay up.

“But we are in the Championship now so we need to do everything to try and come back for the next season because this club should normally be in the top 10 [of the Premier League].

“This season was hard for everyone but we need to carry on and work hard for the season after.”

The former Toulouse midfielder has been named as part of France’s 23-man squad for the European Championships in his homeland this summer and will have the chance to add to the 35 caps he has amassed for the national team.
