“?Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is set to re-join Italian side Roma on loan, “?according to Calcio Mercato.
Szczesny spent a successful year on loan at Roma last season, and made 42 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A club.
Szczesny made his first Arsenal appearance in a league cup game during the 2009-10 season, and has so far featured in 132 Premier League games for the Gunners. However, due to the arrivals of Petr Cech and David Ospina in recent years and his consistently indifferent form, Szczesny has found himself surplus to requirements, and looks set to leave the club this summer.
And according to Calcio Mercato, Szczesny has told friends that he will be returning to Italy this summer.
“It’s almost completely resolved, I’m coming,” he declared. The transfer was reportedly requested by Roma’s head coach Luciano Spalletti, who is keen to work more with the Polish international after taking over from Rudi Garcia halfway through the season.
With Szczesny set to leave the club and David Ospina’s future at the Emirates still looking cloudy, Emiliano Martinez could be set to become Arsenal’s new understudy to Petr Cech. Martinez, 23, has made eight appearances during his five seasons at Arsenal, and has previously had loan spells at Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Arsenal are still looking for signings in the transfer window, having been heavily linked with strikers throughout the summer. They have so far signed Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka, Japanese striker Takuma Asano, and more recently Bolton Wanderers and England U21 defender Rob Holding.
