Akwa United have qualified for the next round of the Nigeria Federation Cup after edging fellow Nigeria Premier Football League side, Wikki Tourist on Thursday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Promise Keepers defeated the Giant Elephants by a goal to nil in the round 64 clash at the UNEC Stadium, Enugu to reach the round of 32.
In the 27th minute, Liman Ahmadu was at the right place at the right time to stab home the opener after Abbey Benson’s initial effort was cleared off the line.
Uche Collins pushed for the second 12 minutes later, but his effort was saved by the goalkeeper as the Uyo side pushed for more goals till the end of the first half.
Akwa continued their dominance in the second 45 minutes with Uche Collins and Ahmadu coming close in a couple of occasions to score, but no avail as the score ended 1-0.
