AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: Super Eagles Start Off Jose Peseiro Reign In Style

 

Super Eagles of Nigeria on Thursday evening began their AFCON 2023 campaign with a 2-1 win against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja, Nigeria Soccernet can report.

In the game which was Jose Peseiro’s first competitive match as the head of the Super Eagles, Nigeria fell behind as early as the 11th minutes when Jonathan Morsay gave the visitors the lead.

The Super Eagles responded five minutes later through Alex Iwobi. The Everton star ensured the joy of the visitors didn’t last long.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen scored the 2nd and the winner for the Super Eagles four minutes before the break.

The second half was all about yellow cards as Super Eagles players picked up four while Sierra Leone picked up two.

The win is the first for Jose Peseiro in what was his first competitive match as the head coach of the team.

Nigeria visits Sao Tome and Principe who lost 5-1 away to Guinea Bissau next on 13th of June.
