AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: Ekong Ruled Out of São Tomé and Príncipe Clash

Super Eagles vice captain Williams Troost-Ekong has been ruled out of Super Eagles clash against São Tomé and Príncipe, Nigeriasoccernet can report.

Troost-Ekong sustained a injury groin while on duty for the Super Eagles in their 2-1 win against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in Abuja on Thursday.

The Watford Star has featured in all of Jose Peseiro three games and had proven to be an important player but had to make way for Kenneth Omeruo in the 80th minute of the game against Sierra Leone.

With the latest development, the 28-year-old defender has subsequently left the team’s camp in Abuja and returned to the United Kingdom to start treatment in preparation for the new league football season (English Championship) with his English club, Watford.

In line to take his place in the squad for the clash against São Tomé and Príncipe are: Kenneth Omeruo, Leon Balogun, Chidozie Awaziem and others.
