The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued a strong warning to referees and all stakeholders involved in domestic football, stressing its zero-tolerance policy towards match manipulation and unethical conduct.
The warning was made through a statement from the NFF Refereeing Committee, signed by its Secretary, Mohammed Ameenu, on Wednesday. He expressed deep concern over external pressures and influences that could compromise the integrity of refereeing decisions.
In the statement, the NFF confirmed that both the NFF President and General Secretary have set up a dedicated monitoring committee, with members deployed to observe matches across all tiers of the league.
“All referees appointed for matches are hereby instructed to uphold the principles of equity, fairness, and justice,” the statement emphasized. It went on to warn that any officials found guilty of misconduct, including match-fixing, will face severe consequences, including a potential 10-year ban from football and the possibility of prosecution by the State Security Services.
The NFF concluded by reminding all parties involved in the game of their responsibilities and warned them to comply with these guidelines to preserve the integrity of the sport.
