The injuries affected us greatly in the second half – Egypt coach on their defeat to Nigeria

Mahmoud Gaber, coach of Egyptian Young Pharaohs has expressed his feelings after yesterday’s defeat to Nigeria’s Flying Eagles at the ongoing U20 AFCON, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.

Egypt despite having numbers if scoring chances fell by a lone goal to Nigeria, a result that has left their qualification hope ls in limbo.

“The players were very tensed after the goal and felt under pressure, and this greatly affected them,” Gaber said after the game.

“We missed many opportunities, and if we were focused, we would have decided the match in our favour,” he added.

“The injury affected us greatly in the second half. We will not blame the matter on injuries, but we lost many distinguished players before the tournament.

“But we are holding on to our hopes and we will fight to complete the campaign. Senegal is a strong team, but we will fight for the victory and to qualify”, Gaber concluded.

Gaber’s team need a miracle to pull through to next round. A convincing win for Egypt against Senegal while hoping Nigeria drops at least two points against Mozambique will push them to the next round.
