CAF Champions League: Green predicts tough test for Rivers United

Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Chris Green has admitted that Rivers United are up against a tough side in this weekend’s CAF Champions League first leg, second round tie in Port Harcourt with reigning champions, Wydad Athletic Club of Casablanca, Morocco .

He nonetheless stressed that Rivers United won’t be cowed into submission knowing that football comes with surprises and that with a bit of luck they could produce a magnificent result.

“We are preparing. We are underdogs because they are the defending champions. We have the underdog status but not wearing the underdog toga,” Barrister Green stated.

“We will continue to go about our training with all seriousness knowing that with good preparations and good mentality supported by a bit of luck, we could get a good result at home and improve on it on the second leg.”

The Pride of Rivers defeated Liberian side, Watanga FC in the first round and the Commissioner believed the arrival of Watanga FC winger, Albert Vincent Korvah who was a thorn in the flesh of the Nigerian champions in both legs, would boost hi side against the Moroccan outfit.

He said Korvah penned a three-year contract with the Nigeria Professional Football League champions.

The talented winger attracted the interest of Rivers United following his superb displays for Watanga FC in the CAF Champions tie between both teams.

“Vincent Albert Korvah? He is a utility player and a very good player. He is the best player on the Watanga FC team. He will help our team,” Barrister Green added.
