Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma remain hopeful of getting to the group stage of the competition at the expense of CAF Champions League defending champions Wydad Athletic of Morocco, Nigeriasoccernet.com gathered.
Rivers United on Sunday lost the second leg of the champions league to Watanga in Liberia but progressed to the next round on a 3-1 in aggregate win.
Reacting to the win Eguma commended the efforts of his players but also gave kudos to the hosts for their performance.
“We never expected a game like this after we beat them 3-0 in the first leg, anyway I commend their efforts.
“Fortunately for us, we are better than them, they got their chance and took it and we tried not to let them score again,” he said.
Speaking briefly ahead of the crucial next round fixture against Wydad Athletic, Eguma said:
“We have to work very hard and improve our performance.
“Playing against Wydad is going to be a big match but we are equal to the task”, he concluded.
Rivers United will host Wydad at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium Port Harcourt for the first leg on October 9th before traveling to Casablanca for the second leg on 16th of October.
