FIFA U20 WWC: Falconets title chances brightens as 3-time world champions, us crashes out

Falconets chances of finally winning the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup keeps increasing, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report.

Initially it was Germany who on two occasions in the final defeated the Falconets that crashed out of the tournament in the group stages.

Now, one of the tournament favourites and 3-time World Champions, the United States crashed out of the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after suffering their second consecutive defeats on Thursday morning at the hand of the tournament’s defending champions, Japan.

Japan dumped the US 3-1 in a highly contested match.

The US were earlier defeated by the Netherlands in their second group game 3-0, having won their opening group match against Ghana by the same scoreline.

The US has now joined Germany which earlier crashed out of the tournament.

This means the two most successful teams of the tournament as well as the favourites to lift this year’s accolade have clashed out.

The result also means the US has now failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the tournament for the second consecutive time after falling to do in 2018 in France.

Falconets had in 2010 and 2014 lost two consecutive final matches to Germany.

A win against Netherlands in the quarterfinal will put Falconets in a better chance to win the trophy as they will face the winner between Spain and Mexico in the semifinal.
