WAFCON 2022: “We Can’t Panic At This Period” – Waldrum

Randy Waldrum, coach of Nigeria’s Super Falcons has assured Nigerians that this is not the time for the team to press the panic button after their opening day 2-1 loss to South Africa, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report.

The Super Falcons were a shadow of themselves when they took on South Africa in their first game of the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Bayana Bayana dominated the game from start to finish, with the Falcons playing as the second best all through the encounter.

This result however has generated a lot of topical discussions all across Africa with the team’s ability to defend the title now in doubt.

Randy Waldrum in response to what seems like a failed start to the Falcons title defence says:

“We knew it would be a difficult game, it is the first game of the tournament and it is a long tournament. We have to prepare for the next games.

“I was surprised with our performance in the attack. We got a late goal and we tried to get back in the game, we are still positive.

“I am looking forward to how we can improve, we will look at the areas we were exposed and we will make those corrections.”

He also stated that this is not the time to press the panic button as everything will fall in place for the Falcons.

“We can’t panic at this period, we still have two group games and we have to improve.

“We will analyse and review individual players performance and make the right decisions in the next games.”

During the last time edition of the WAFCON staged in Ghana, the Super Falcons lost their opening game by a lone goal to South Africa but went on to beat the same opponent 4-3 on penalties in the final to claim their 9th title
