Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has said he can’t still get over the feeling of scoring his debut goal for Nigeria as he now hopes it would spur him to scoring more goals for Nigeria, AOIFootball.com reports.
The 27-year-old scored his debut goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to Mexico in May in Dallas but says he keeps getting goosebumps every time he remembers the goal.
“It’s an amazing feeling, that’s something you dream of for years, and to score my first goal against an opponent like Mexico and happening in a big stadium, it’s hard to believe.
“When I talk about the goal, I get goosebumps, but I hope there would be some more goals to come from me,” Dessers enthused.
When asked how he felt about playing got the first time on Nigerian soil, the former Heracles Almelo star stated that he would have loved to do so in a full stadium with fans.
“Yeah, unfortunately, it’s a closed-door game. I was really looking forward to playing in Nigeria with a full stadium and with full supporters but on the other hand, this is business and we have to do our job by getting the victory for Nigerians,” he concluded.
Cyriel Dessers made his debut for Nigeria in a 1-1 friendly against Tunisia in October of 2020 and had to wait a further 19 months before returning to the Super Eagles’ fold.
