Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has backed Tottenham to win trophies under Mauricio Pochettino, claiming that it would be an ‘travesty’ if they didn’t earn silverware with their current squad.
The Lilywhites came into the weekend occupying 2nd in the Premier League, with many suggesting that they can go the distance having only lost twice all season.
Pochettino has built a young, well-drilled side in north-London, which is made all the more impressive when you consider Tottenham’s net-spend in the past five years has been just £1m.
And Carragher agrees, claiming that this Spurs side have ‘all the ingredients’ to win trophies over the next few seasons.
“?”This Tottenham team look primed to win trophies,” Carragher told the Daily Mail, as quoted in the “?Standard.
“They have all the ingredients you could wish for and it would be a travesty if they ended up being remembered in years to come in the same way as those Leeds and Newcastle teams who entertained but had nothing to show for it.
“The work that has gone on over the last five years has been remarkable.

“Their net spend is £1m for that period but that hasn’t stopped them from becoming one of the most progressive clubs in the league,”
Tottenham look set to move into their new 61,000-seater stadium for the 2018/19 season, but Carragher believes the current side won’t reap the benefits.
He added: “Future generations will feel the full benefit but will it bypass this team?
“They are ready to emulate the squad of the early 1980s, who won two FA Cups and the UEFA Cup, and win trophies of their own.
“If they don’t, the world’s biggest clubs will start knocking on their door,”
