The German international was unable to give his side a helping hand on Saturday as Liverpool fell to a surprising 3-2 defeat against Swansea City at Anfield.
The loss, combined with the three-points Chelsea may gain if they beat Hull on Sunday, could see the gap to the league-leaders extended to 10 points with just 16 games remaining this season.
Liverpool do have a chance to slash the gap on January 31st as they take on Antonio Conte’s side at Anfield.
