Inter Milan boss Stefano Pioli has urged fans not to get ahead of themselves, despite Inter winning five straight league matches.

The Nerazzurri defeated Chievo 3-1 on Saturday which pushed the side into fifth place and just  five points off the Champions League spots.

Inter Milan have now won 5 Serie A games in a row for the first time since September 2015.

But speaking to “?Rai 2 programme Domencia Sportiva, Pioli claimed the side have still got a long way to go.

“We’ve done a lot of hard work and I think we’ve done it well,” he claimed.

“That said we’re only at the start of our journey and we have to look to overhaul some great sides who are playing well. We need to take it game by game and try to win as many of them as we can. Unfortunately, third place (and a Champions League spot) is not just down to us.”

Piolo was appointed Inter manager in November following the departure of Frank de Boer and is hopeful he can help restore Inter to their glory days.

It wasn’t that long ago that Inter won five consecutive Serie A titles under the guidance of Roberto Mancini and Jose Mourinho – yet the team have struggled since Mourinho’s departure and have not finished higher than fourth since 2011.

However, things are looking more optimistic for the Nerazzurri since the side were bought during the summer. And Pioli was full of praise for the new owners:

“The owners are right behind us and make sure we feel their support everyday, with Steven Zhang and Jun Liu around everyday. We’re in constant contact with the other directors too.

“It’s great for a coach to have a club that supports him and a group of players who take responsibility and show willing. I have both of these things which makes my job a lot easier,” the 51-year-old claimed.

Inter welcome Bologna to the San Siro on Tuesday night for their next game. A win would see Inter make it seven straight victories in all competitions and secure a quarter final spot in the Coppa Italia.
