Former Super Eagles’ Captain Kanu Nwankwo has told our sports team that he is very troubled and annoyed that when the Africa Cup of Nations kicks off tomorrow (Saturday) the Super Eagles will not be there to compete among the best in Africa.
Speaking at the official launch of the Dakinda Penalty Game, an initiative of Emmanuel Akpakwu, Kanu who is Nigeria’s most decorated player and also the 1996 and 1999 Africa Footballer of the Year winner said he is always in tears whenever the thought of Nigeria not being in Gabon this year comes to his mind.
Kanu said he had the premonition that with the likes of Victor Moses, Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi being able captained by Mikel Obi, the Super Eagles would have shocked everybody in Gabon.
“Let me be very honest with you, the thought of Nigeria not participating in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon is very sad and not good at all.
“In fact, I am very angry that the Super Eagles won’t be at the Nations Cup now that the team is in a killer form. I am not happy at all and I am very sure that the whole Africa will definitely miss Nigeria.
“My only consolation is that with hard work on the side of the Eagles, Nigeria look set to pick the (2018) World Cup ticket in our group. This is a lesson that we should always put our house in order and prepare well for future competitions,” he said.
Kanu who is also Dakinda Penalty Game’s Ambassador hailed the Chairman and Founder of Dakinda Football For Every home, Emmanuel Akpakwu for his initiative which according to him will empower thousands of youths in the country.
“This project wouldn’t have come better than now when there is recession in the country. It will help change the lives of our youths and also take them awayfrom the streets and social vices,” he added.
