“?Everton manager Ronald Koeman is entertaining the idea of offering Bastian Schweinsteiger a way out of his Manchester United hell, according to the “?Daily Star.
The Dutchman is said to be mulling over whether to make a move for the United outcast, with the view of taking the Germany international on loan at Goodison Park until the end of the season.
Koeman, who on Saturday evening watched his Toffees get thoroughly hammered by Chelsea
“?5-0 at Stamford Bridge, is keen to add to his midfield options.
RUMOURS: Everton consider Schweinsteiger loan move https://t.co/FdnAcpzTWN
Gareth Barry will be 36 this season and, with James McCarthy out-of-favour currently, Koeman believes he needs a midfielder of Schweinsteiger’s pedigree to help his bid for European football next season.
Schweinsteiger, who was signed by Louis van Gaal in 2015, has been ostracised at Old Trafford by Jose Mourinho. The German, who was part of his country’s World Cup triumph in 2014, made 31 appearances during his first season at the club but was informed by Mourinho in the summer that he did not feature prominently in the Portuguese coach’s plans.
As a result, Schweinsteiger is desperately short on match fitness and Koeman will decide whether a loan deal is worth the risk. The other potentially decisive factor is the midfielder’s wages. Schweinsteiger currently earns £200k-a-week at Old Trafford and, should Everton come calling, United may want the Toffees to pay at least a portion of the total.
