Former Liverpool defender Phil Babb claims that he observed manager Jurgen Klopp urge star midfielder Philippe Coutinho to up his game, just two minutes into the Reds’ recent 2-1 win over West Brom, with the Brazilian duly heeding his manager’s advice to produce an impressive display, including a goal.
The former Inter player has been in magnificent form for the club this season and is one of the reasons that Liverpool find themselves within two points of top spot, with a game in hand.
But Babb, who is equally as impressed with the 24-year-old, also admitted that it bodes well for the club that Klopp can still demand an improvement from his star player and receive as such.
Speaking to LFC TV, as quoted by “?Inside Futbol, the former Ireland player stated: “In the West Brom game, Jurgen had a go at him after two minutes and then he put in a sublime performance.
“He is certainly spectacular and the goals that he has contributed as well this season have been sublime”, Babb explained.
“He’s one of the top three [players in the Premier League].”Coutinho has been doing it for us week in, week out”, the former defender added.
Coutinho’s performances, which have allegedly caught the attentions of La Liga champions Barcelona, as well as Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, has made eleven appearances for the club, scoring five goals and providing as many assists for his teammates.
So far this season, Coutinho has made eleven appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing as many five assists for his team-mates.
