The 26-year-old has struggled with injuries throughout the years, but Koeman is tracking the progress of Strootman hoping he’s past his two previous serious knee injuring, ex-Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal wanted to bring the Dutchman in when he was at Old Trafford but his injuries prevented the move.
Barry will be 36 in February and Strootman is an obvious replacement and has similar personal characteristics as well as on-the-field attributes, the ex-PSV man has 18 months left on his contract, but the Toffees will look to bring him in the January window as they still have some money left in the war chest after the proposed move for Moussa Sissoko broke down last transfer window.
Strootman has featured 43 times for Roma since joining in 2013 and has scored six goals in his time at the Stadio Olympio, he is also currently selected in the Netherlands national team which features stars like: Quincy Promis, Daley Blind and Davy Klaassen. Strootman himself has played 32 times and scored three goals in his time with the national team.
