Barcelona striking sensation Luis Suarez and Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero reportedly head the list in Serie A giants Inter Milan’s quest for a total squad revamp, according to Spanish publication AS (via The Sun).
Real Madrid and Colombia international star James Rodriguez is also being eyed by the Italian giants, with reports suggesting club chiefs have targeted former player and current Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone as the man to lead their new revolution.
Chinese investors Suning Holdings Group acquired the club over the summer and the takeover has prompted talk of Inter being afforded a substantial transfer budget to potentially re-establish themselves as Italy’s top club.
The Nerazzurri have endured a poor start to the season under Frank De Boer, who replaced Roberto Mancini in the summer, with the club currently sitting in ninth place after seven matches.
According to Spanish reports, the South American trio of Suarez, Aguero and James are part of an ambitious project to stem Inter’s current demise in Italy and due to their Chinese investors, the funds are reportedly available to move forward with their plans.
Manchester United outcast Matteo Darmian is also a target for Inter and reports suggest the club will make a £12m move for the Italian defender in the January transfer window at the request of current boss De Boer.
But while club chiefs prepare to back De Boer this winter, reports suggest the club are paving the way for Simeone to make a return to the San Siro.
The Argentine played for the club between 1997-99 and is known to hold an affection for the club. It is also understood Atletico’s chief are resigned to the knowledge that Simeone will be leaving the Vicente Calderon in the near future.
