The current impressive performances of the Super Eagles players in the various leagues across the world has raised the confidence of the teams’ chief coach, Salisu Yusuf that the team would pick the sole group B African ticket for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Yusuf, who expressed his satisfaction with the performances of the Super Eagles players at their European clubs and other leagues, insisted that what is currently needed is the right selection of players, noting that the country has the calibre of players that could win the World Cup ticket.
The former Enyimba and Kano Pillars coach, who is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Nigeri Football Federation (NFF) this week however, admitted that the group B battle will be tough considering the countries that are drawn along with Nigeria, even as he noted that the team only need a good start against Zambia.
He praised the current form of the players, warning that the new spirit in the team can guarantee them victory both at home and away.
“We know it is going to be very difficult but I think we can scale through. I believe we can beat any team anywhere with the right players. Our players are doing very well in Europe and other places. So I don’t see why we cannot qualify. I am very optimistic about that”. He assured.
Nigeria opens its quest for the Russia 2018 world cup ticket with a clash against Zambia on October 9 at the Levy Nwanawasa stadium in Ndola.
