“?Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare will be out of action for around six months following his involvement in a car crash, “?the Daily Mail have reported.

Souare broke his thighbone during the incident, and was rushed to hospital on Sunday. The injury will also rule him out of the Africa Cup of Nations, in which he would have played for Senegal.

Palace boss Alan Pardew confirmed that, while the injury news is disappointing, he expected Souare to be back in action before the end of the season.

“There is nothing in the engineering of the knee and ankle that’s a problem so we think five to six months he should be up and running around again,” Pardew stated.

“I expect him to play again this season. I’m not too clear on the details it was such a quick incident, the car pulled in front of him and he had very little time to react and therefore the accident occurred.”

Souare had to be helped from his car by a team of rescuers, and also suffered head and leg injuries. The roof of the Mercedes driven by Souare had to be cut open in order to retrieve him, and Pardew revealed that everyone at the club was sympathetic to the former Lille left-back’s current situation.

“It was a terrible accident. We owe a huge debt to the London Air Ambulance and the surgeons who helped him.

“He’s having some bad news with his father, who is very sick so maybe that was on his mind. It’s just a warning to everybody, car accidents are accidents in the end of the day, you have to be alive and alert to everything that’s going on.

“He isn’t having the best of times, but we are all very supportive of him and we love Pape and we can’t wait to see him back.”
