“?Renato Sanches will have a delayed start to his first season with Bayern Munich following a €35m summer move from Benfica as a result of a lingering thigh injury that will now force him to be sidelined until September.

Bayern confirmed on their official website on Sunday evening that Sanches was forced to miss training earlier in the day because of a problem he initially sustained while playing for Portugal against France in the final of Euro 2016 last month.

The 18-year-old, who wowed audiences after breaking onto the scene at Benfica last season before taking the Euros by storm, will now miss three to four weeks of action as he looks to fully recover.

Sanches was officially unveiled as a Bayern player on Saturday, during which he was presented with the number 35 shirt. He then featured in a brief public training session alongside fellow high-profile new signing Mats Hummels, but was left unable to participate the next day.

The midfielder will miss the upcoming DFB Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund at Westfalenstadion, as well as the first round of the DFB Pokal competition against FC Carl Zeiss Jena on 19th August and the Bundesliga opener against Werder Bremen a week later.

Depending on how long Sanches takes to recover, he could be available for the Bundesliga clash against Schalke in early September.

The last of Bayern’s Euro 2016 competitors all resumed training on Friday after extended breaks, including the likes of Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski and Kingsley Coman, with new manager Carlo Ancelotti already planning to utilise them against Dortmund this weekend.
