Former Southampton forward Graziano Pelle has left an emotional message for Southampton fans via his Twitter account.

On Monday, the Saints announced that the Italian would be leaving for Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng in a £13m deal. Pelle has since touched down in China and was met by a horde of fans who were awaiting his arrival at the airport.

He is set to make a whopping  €350,000 per week, which will make him the sixth highest earner in world football.

The 30-year-old joined the Saints back in 2014, becoming one of their most important players. He scored 30 goals in 81 appearances and gained immense popularity as a result of his ruthless finishing.

He also played a huge part up front for Italy during his country’s Euro 16 campaign, but missed a crucial penalty in a quarter-final shootout against Germany, helping the Azzurri crash out of the tournament.

Pelle has left a message for the Southampton fans, players and staff, insisting that he will never forget them.
