Startling reports have emerged that English Premier League club, Watford’s €15 million transfer fee for Isaac Success’ arrival from Granada of Spain is 38 times higher than what they paid to buy him in 2014
The report by allnigeriasoccer.com further states that the club which brought Success to limelight, BJ Foundation of Benin City were short-changed in the transfer of the former youth international to Udinese of Italy in 2014.
It was learnt further that, though BJ Foundation agreed to sell Success for 400,000 euros, they eventually received only 37.5 percent of that sum.
The exact figure the youth club got from the deal was €150,000, while the balance of €250,000 was said to have been paid to the local and foreign intermediaries that brokered the transfer.
In July, The Hornets completed the signing of Success on a five-year deal for a fee of €15 million, which is a rise of €14.6 million in his transfer fee.
The report by allnigeriasoccer.com concluded that it means Watford paid approximately 38 times more for the player compared to what he would have cost two years ago.
Success made his non-competitive debut for Watford in their 1-1 draw against National League side Woking in a pre-season fixture on Sunday evening.
The 20-year-old penned a five-year deal with the Hornets earlier this month but arrived in England on Friday after he was issued a visa.
Having started on the bench, Success made his bow in the 67th minute when he replaced central defender Tommie Hoban, but he fired blanks in his first game, ahead of which he trained for only two days with his new teammates.
Ighalo and Nigerian-born Scotland international, Ikechi Anya made The Hornets’ starting line-up and the Super Eagles striker subbed out before the start of the second half.
