Kasimpasa of Turkey have lost out in the race for Kenneth Omeruo’s signature, following their inability to meet the five million pounds price tag placed on the defender by Chelsea.
Omeruo’s initial plan was to make himself worthy of a place in Chelsea’s main squad for the incoming season but, with his place in the squad still doubtful, he has opted for another departure.
It had been reckoned that Kasimpasa would jump at the opportunity to either seal another loan spell for Omeruo or buy his contract outright from Chelsea, but they now appear to have lost that initiative to Super Lig rivals, Besiktas.
This follows confirmation of Chelsea’s valuation of Omeruo, which Kasimpasa could not come up with such cash after the player’s loan spell there last season.
The 22-year-old Omeruo made 25 appearances for Kasimpasa last season, as they finished seventh, but they could not afford the option to make the player’s transfer a permanent one.
Omeruo cost Chelsea about 600,000 Euros, when he signed for The Blues in 2011 from Standard Liege of Belgium, but he has not made a competitive debut for the London club.
Instead, Chelsea have thrice sipped him out on loan, first to ADO Den Haag of Holland, after which he spent two seasons at Middlesbrough of England and last term with Kasimpasa.
He will now feature for Kasimpasa’s fellow-Istanbul-based rivals, Besiktas, also on loan in the coming season, with the club bound to look into the possibility of buying his contract at the end of the spell next summer.
