20-Man National Committee To Plan State Burial For Keshi

Stephen Keshi will not be the next coach of Burkina Faso according to media reports out of the West African country as Gernot Rohr has been given the job. The French-German Gernot Rohr has been appointed new head coach of the Stallions of Burkina Faso, koaci.com said it has learnt from the Burkinabe Football Association. The 61-year-old Rohr will thus replace Belgian Paul Put, who was fired after a disappointing 2015 AFCON campaign in Equatorial Guinea The vastly experienced coach has previously handled Gabon and Niger. Keshi has handled Togo and Mali. He is yet to finalise a new deal with Nigeria after his initial three-year contract ended after the World Cup in Brazil last year. After several weeks of speculations, Keshi admitted his agent has been in talks with Burkina Faso over the vacant national team top post. "My agent is talking with them (Burkina Faso). We are all professional coaches. We cannot stay in one place and say okay a job is going to come," said the former Nigeria skipper.

The Ministry of Youth & Sports Development has proposed that a 20-man national committee be set up to organise the state burial for the late former Super Eagles coach and skipper, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi.

Dalung gave the hint when the children of the late coach called to officially inform and thank the federal government for the support given to the family of the football icon since his demise.

Dalung commiserated with the children who lost both parents within six months and urged them to be strong in the Lord.

“Coach Stephen Keshi will be remembered for his uncommon charisma, unrivaled leadership qualities and ability to command respect from players, peers and football enthusiasts.

He was a national hero and would be given a befitting burial. In fact, Keshi belonged to the government and he will be buried by the federal government. This committee will ensure a hitch-free burial and liaise between the government and the family to ensure that the best funeral is given to our hero.”

Also, Dalung revealed that a memo which will suggest ways of immortalising Keshi and Coach Shuaibu Amodu is to be presented at the Federal Executive Council meeting soon.

Meanwhile, the proposed committee would comprise family members, the Nigeria Football Federation, the Ministry of Youth and Sports developement, stakeholders including coaches, administrators, ex footballers, the media, representatives of Delta and Edo states, the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigerian Supporters Club.

The committee will ensure a smooth state burial for late Keshi which is being proposed for the weekend of July 27- 29, 2016.
